The various oils used as mediums in oil painting are known as drying oils. Old Holland offers different types of drying oils for oil colours.
The drying oils are seed oils that oxidise to form a hard film when exposed to air. They are used as the binder in artist’s oil paints, to mix with paints as mediums or to clean brushes without using solvent to help retain moisture in brush hairs.
Our drying oils are mainly linseed and poppy. Why? Linseed oil is 100 % safe to work with. It is also used in food industry as a great source of omega-3 fatty acids. Poppy oil doesn’t appear to be popular in the health food realm, but it is used in skin care products.
Our range of drying oils contains: Linseed Oil Bleached, Stand Oil, Poppy Oil Refined and Cold Pressed Windmill Linseed Oil.
